Rozella Frances (Hoy) Osborn was born Jan. 27, 1914, in rural Charles City, the daughter of James and Kathryne (Harold) Hoy. She attended school in Colwell and enjoyed playing basketball while in school.

Rozella was united in marriage to Neil W. Osborn on June 12, 1936, in Charles City. She had been a lifelong resident of the Charles City area. Rozella had been a homemaker most all of her life. Her greatest joy in life was caring for and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1968 Neil and Rozella lost their home in the tornado and eventually rebuilt on the same home site.

At one time, Rozella was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Charles City Senior Citizens and played in the Senior Citizens Center Band. Her hobbies and interests included playing cards, especially Canasta and 500. She was a lover of trees, organizing garage sales and very fond of "Corky," "Billy," "Oscar," "Abbey," "Bo," "Chloe," "Tasha," "Zoey," "Clipper" and "Roman" the pet dogs throughout the years. Rozella enjoyed watching Tiger Woods on TV, coffee time in the mornings with neighbors and cheering on the mens' softball games with her sister, Lucinda Belknap, at Westwood Park where her son, Gary, ran the concessions and would enjoy a hotdog and a beer afterwards. Her 90th birthday celebration was held at Wildwood Golf Course in Charles City, it was a very special time for her spent with family and friends.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Rozella's life are her three children, Gary (Barbara) Osborn of Charles City, Ron (Peg) Osborn of Dixon, Ill., and Kathryne (Dennis) Smaagaard of Eden Prairie, Minn.; her five grandchildren, Chuck (Teresa) Osborn of Elgin, Minn., Sharon (Kreg) Swedeen of Dalton, Minn., Jamie (Kelly) Osborn of Waukee, Colin Smaagaard of Chicago, Ill., and Garrett Smaagaard of Minneapolis, Minn.; her four great-grandchildren, Joey Osborn, Josh (Shanda) Osborn, Matt Osborn and Michael Osborn; and one brother, Calvin Hoy, of Charles City.

Rozella is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Neil W. Osborn on June 14, 1992; one sister, Lucinda Belknap; three brothers, Marvin, Don and Bernard Hoy; two half-brothers, Harold LaBayre and Marion Hoy.
