Son of Otto Forrest and Olive Marie Blew Amelang. Wayne joined the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1939 and served in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations. For two years he was flight engineer for Gen. Ira Eaker's B-17 "Starduster". After his discharge in 1945 he married Marcene Eaton of Ottumwa, Iowa and they had two children; Jerry and Jo Lynn. He became one of the first test engineers at the Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tullahoma in 1954 and worked there until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the First Christian Church for over 50 years.
