John F. Lyon was born in Boston, April 2, 1850. He came to live with O.B. Lawton when he was 12 years of age and remained six or seven years. In 1870 he married Mary Averill, who died a number of years ago. Two children were born to them, Arthur, who lives in town, and Frank, who lives in Brattleboro. Until within a few years Mr. Lyon was an active, industrious man. He was well informed upon general subjects and was keen and witty in his remarks and observations. He drove the stage from Wilmington to Brattleboro, also to Bennington, and was always pleasant and obliging. He died at the home of his late uncle, Charles H. Averill, Feb. 2. The funeral was attended Monday by Rev. Mr. Blackford. Burial was in the cemetery near his home.
