ANN MARIE GRIBBLE Lifelong San Mateo resident and beloved mother, Ann Marie Gribble, passed from this life to the next on May 28, 2002 after fighting lung cancer for more than one year. A first generation American, Ann was born in San Mateo to Daniel Patrick Burke and Ellen Burke (nee Lacey). Both her parents emigrated from Ireland before the turn of the century. Ann attended St. Matthew's Catholic School and graduated from San Mateo High School in 1944. She worked in San Francisco at HOLC (Home Owners Loan Corporation) and at the Veterans Administration, both in San Francisco. She was also a Stage Door Canteen volunteer hostess before marrying Henry Elbert Gribble at St. Matthew's Catholic Church on August 17, 1946. Ann and Hank had five children and were married 36 years until his death in 1982. As a family, the Gribbles vacationed along scenic northern California rivers where Ann and Hank enjoyed trout fishing. From an early age, Ann loved to dance. She and Hank enjoyed ballroom dancing together. Ann was gifted with an artistic touch which was evidenced in her ceramics, oil painting, home decorating and gardening. Ann was an avid golfer and had been a member of the San Mateo Golf Club and Lincoln and Harding Golf Clubs, both at San Francisco. Ann is survived by sons: Gordon William Gribble of San Mateo, Clifford James Gribble of Boise, Idaho. She is also survived by daughter Michol Ann Gribble Jensen of Princeton, Idaho. Ann had three granddaughters: Kimberly Gribble of Boise, Idaho, (redacted) of San Mateo and Talitha Jensen of Princeton, Idaho. A private service was held at Skylawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Mission Hospice of San Mateo County.
