After graduating from Reading High School in 1949, Bill enlisted in the Navy Reserves. Bill's love of music began at age 7 with accordion lessons in Reading, PA. By the age of 20, he was working as an accordion teacher, and playing in a 3-piece band. As a young man, he supported himself and a family by giving private accordion and organ lessons out of his home. Later, Bill's primary instrument became the organ as he entertained people with his unique style of musicianship that had roller skaters dancing on 8 wheels at rinks across the tri-state area with his live organ playing as well as sharing his music worldwide by making recordings. Music and roller skating evolved into a business career, with the leasing of Ringing Rocks Roller Rink, and the ownership of CC Skate Ranch 1&2 and CC&M. Bill was known to say that he retired three times and didn't like it. And throughout the last 20 plus years he continued to share his talent by entertaining many seniors in senior centers and assisted living facilities.
Although music and roller skating were a huge part of his fulfilled life, he also found time for other accomplishments such as running the Boston Marathon multiple years and playing tennis well into his 80s.
Bill was blessed with a long life, enjoying his loving family and friends, traveling, and playing music. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his children: Jill (Clark) Lorenz, Perry Clark, Nina (Clark) and Shawn Green, and Nancy (Clark) and David Wiesinger. His grandchildren had many good times with their Pop Pop. They include Coby and Miranda Clark, Christopher Clark, Bronwyn (Green), Austin Cseh, Olivia Green, Emily Glinecke, and Gavin Glinecke. Great-Granddaughters, Rosalie Clark, Gianna Green, and Kennedy Cseh, will surely miss their "Florida Pop-Pop."
Bill was fortunate to have a wonderful companion, Sue Suarez, who spent time traveling, shopping, dancing, worshiping, and supporting each other for more than 20 years. Sue and her family were very special to Bill.
Uncle Bill will also be lovingly remembered by his nieces Susan (Klinger) Rhoads and Donna (Klinger) Antle and their families.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by a sister, Sylvia (Clark) Klinger, a brother-in-law, Carl Klinger, a son-in-law, Karl Lorenz, and grandchildren: Choey Clark, and Austin and Madelyn Green.
A celebration of life will be held at Exeter Township's Dunn Community Center (4565 Prestwick Dr Reading, PA) on Sunday, September 3 from 11am-1pm.
