Jean was the oldest of seven children born to Willie Newman and Lola Henrietta (Walter) Lefler. She married John Richard Noble in 1941 and they had four children: John Richard Jr, 'Dick', Thomas, David and Betsy.

Born March 1, 1914 in New London, North Carolina, she was the oldest daughter of the late Willie Newman and Lola Walter Lefler. A 1934 graduate of UNC Women's College in Greensboro, NC, Mrs. Noble taught school for seven years prior to her marriage and birth of her four children. She was very active in the family business, Ben Franklin Five and Ten Cents Store, her Lutheran faith, the Girl Scouts, and The Green Thumb Garden Club.
Surviving are three sons, Dick Noble and wife, Alana of Plains, Ohio, Tom Noble of Paris, France, and David Noble and wife, Teresa of Gray Court; daughter, Betsy Collins and husband, Ronnie of Winnsboro; brother, Charles Lefler of Oak Island, NC; sisters, Betty Davis of Tryon, NC, and Joanna Carpenter of Columbia; sister-in-law, Hazel Lefler of Albemarle, NC; six grandchildren, Bo Noble, Sharon McCullough, John LeGrand, Ella Harris, Walter Noble and Will Noble; and six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Bethany, and John Noble, Ryan McCullough, and Francesca and Michael LeGrand.
She was predeceased by her sister, Myrle Koerber, brothers, Walter Lefler and Caleb Lefler, and daughter-in-law, Ida Durham Noble.
The family requests that memorials be made to Atonement Lutheran Church, 413 Farley Ave., Laurens, SC 29360; MS Society, Mid Atlantic Chapter, 9801-I Southern Pine Blvd., Charlotte, NC, 28273; MDA, 25 Woods Lake Rd., #704, Greenville, SC 29607; or to a charity of one's choice.
