On March 2, 2023, Heaven gained the sweetest angel, Ruby L. McAfee 94, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully in her sleep at E.T. York Haven Hospice Center.

She was born June 27, 1928, in Ashley, ND, to the late Edward Neis and Martha (Dobler) Neis. She was a homemaker and owned a small business in Stuart, FL prior to moving to Gainesville to be closer to her son and his family.

Ruby was a proud and loving mother and the best "Nana" any grandkid could ask for. She was fondly called "Rainbow Ruby" by her grandsons for the brightness she brought to their day, they used to sing "Rainbow Ruby, that's her name, all your troubles go down the drain." Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her two grandsons Zach and Josh. She enjoyed baking, cooking and playing card games. She had a fun, mischievous sense of humor, loved a good joke and was a free spirit. She never met a stranger and was loved by so many friends who were fortunate to have loved her or been loved by her.

She is preceded in death by her husband Donald McAfee Sr, and her brother Norman Neis. She is survived by her son Donald McAfee Jr and daughter-in-law Donna, her 2 grandsons Zachary and Joshua McAfee, her sister Florence Roeszler and her great niece Greta Smolinski.

To honor her request of "Simple and straight forward" a Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at her son's home on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 3pm.
