OGDEN – Timothy Harry Dyer passed away March 31, 2008, due to complications of congestive heart failure. He was 89 years old.

Tim was born, alongside his twin sister, Mildred, to Samuel E. and Ethel Bland Dyer, February 10, 1919, in Sedalia, Missouri.

Tim spent his childhood years in Ogden, Utah, where he attended Mound Fort School. He went to live with his brother, Tom and graduated from Fort Madison High School in Fort Madison, Iowa. He attended Iowa State University on a football and track scholarship. He returned to Ogden and attended Weber College on a football and track scholarship. He held many track records at Weber State that weren't broken for many years.

Tim joined the Navy in 1941. While stationed in San Diego, CA, he was noticed by scouts and was drafted to play football for the San Diego Bombers, a semi-pro football team, until his ship, the U.S.S. Boise had to leave port. The U.S.S. was the "fightingest ship in the Navy". Dad served in the Navy during World War II with an honorable discharge in 1947.

Tim married Marilyn Shupe, June 17, 1949, in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Tim was a member of the LDS Church. He taught Sunday school, was a scout leader and coached Church sports.

Tim joined the Ogden City Police Department in 1951. He retired in 1984 after 33 years of public service and influencing many lives. He served in many departments, but his favorite was being a truant officer in the Youth Bureau and helping kids. He also worked as a security officer for Grand Central, Wangsgards, Harmons and Ogden City Mall.

Tim loved sports and coached many teams. He was head of the Randy Russell League, coached football and baseball for Ogden City Recreation and the Blue Angels baseball team. While coaching his granddaughter's Junior Jazz basketball team, they won a multi-state championship. He refereed football and basketball games and umpired baseball games. He umpired until he was 80- years- old. Tim dedicated his life to helping kids and trying to make a better life for them. Tim was always so positive and had a smile and laugh that was contagious. He also loved fishing and hunting with his family and friends.

Tim is survived by his children, Cheryl (Marvin) Jensen, Roy, UT, Mike Dyer, Mink Creek, ID, Patti (Rod) Romander, Montpelier, ID, Kelly (Sandra) Dyer, Marriott-Slaterville, UT and Bonnie (Rex) Thornock, Ogden, UT. He has 20 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion and sweetheart, Lila Hales with whom he spent many enjoyable hours playing Skip-Bo, watching movies, going to dinner and just spending time together.

Tim was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his parents; brother and sisters.

The family would like to thank all those who helped take care of Tim. His family, IHC Hospice, Tom with Comfort Keepers, and special thanks to granddaughter, Heidi Moffett for her special attention and care of her grandfather, and Lila Hales for being Tim's angel.
