POMARIA — Dorothy Fay Chavis, 72, of Pomaria, South Carolina died on September 2, 2016 at home with her family after a lengthy illness.

The daughter of the late Edwin Hartman Livingston and Nola Rosalee Huffstetler Livingston, she was born in Prosperity, South Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, James Edwin Livingston and her 2nd husband, Charles Chavis. Her first husband, and father of her children, was Carroll Brooks Alewine, Jr.

She is survived by a daughter, Tina (Sam) Alewine and a son, Timothy (Jeanine) Alewine and two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Alewine and Alyssa Alewine, all of Pomaria, SC; and her step-children Mark Chavis and Debra (Howard) Ruff of Lexington, SC.

After the death of her mother in the late 50's, she was "adopted" into the Smith family. Verner G. and Elvie Huffstetler Smith raised her as their own along with their 8 children, Robert, Evelyn, Floyd, Frances, Steve, Davey, Helen, and Harold.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at her daughter's residence in Pomaria, South Carolina.
