Mary Ruth Fussell Henderson, 91, of the Lands Crossing Community, Irwin County, Georgia, died Monday, July 17, 2023, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.
Graveside services were held 10 AM, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in the Evergreen Cemetery, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Steve Hand officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the services at the cemetery.
Mrs. Henderson was born September 26, 1931, in Banks County, Georgia, to the late John Robert & Winnie Estelle Barnwell Chitwood. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Henderson was a great cook and a very active member of Mt. Olive Church and a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her children: Ed Fussell of Lands Crossing and Jackie F. Golden & Tom of Fitzgerald; bonus children: Sondra Cowan & Robbie of Fitzgerald, Jay Henderson of Lands Crossing and Cathy Truelove of New Smyrna, Beach, Florida; three grandchildren: Sonya Rankin & Chip, Ty Fussell & Hope and Peyton Golden; two great-grandchildren: Blake Underwood and Jack Lee Fussell; and two sisters: Evelyn Manix of Valparaiso, Florida and Kathryn Davis & Wayne of Wellford, South Carolina. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Jimmy Carroll Henderson and Jack Edward Fussell; three brothers: Hoyt Chitwood, Charlie Chitwood and Ralph Chitwood and one sister, Ethel Mills.
