George Ira Keener was the son of Geo. Washington Keener and Sarah Pickenpaugh of the areas of Greene County, PA and the Monongalia Valley of WV. He married first Nancy Hickman and second Abigail Louisa Davis. With Nancy they had Robert Averal, Clarence, George Ira, and Joseph Lindell. With Abigail they had Maud Virginia, Earl DeWitt, Harry F., Minnie S., Clayton, and Georgiana Ruth. During the Civil War, he fought for the Union. George was a marshall in Clay Center KS and in early 1902 moved to Oklahoma to get land the Native Americans had been moved from.
