February 22, 1943 ~ July 11, 2023 (age 80)

Douglas Wayne Frazier, 80, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with cancer and heart disease. As he left this world, he was ushered into the arms of Jesus, whom he had known as his personal Lord and Savior since the age of six. The phone calls, cards, and visits Doug received during the final weeks of his life were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to him.

Doug was born on February 22, 1943, to Herman and Ruby Frazier in Wake County, NC.

After attending school locally through the 9th grade, he began a career in ceramic tile and stone installation, opening his own business, Doug Frazier Tile, in the early 1980's. He employed several people over the years, passing along his passion for the craft and beautifying homes all over central and eastern NC. Doug also gave back to the community, including the year he installed tile in the home built by the Lymphoma & Leukemia Society, which was auctioned off to raise money for the charity. He also participated in several Habitat for Humanity home builds in Wake County.

In 1963, Doug met Janette Carroll through mutual friends. They married on July 11, 1964. Doug and Jan went on to have one son, Rodney. Doug was a beloved husband, a devoted father, and a fun Papa to his grandkids. In the later years of his life, he and Jan also rescued a yorkie, Finn, and claimed him as a part of the family.

In 2005, Doug retired and spent his time between a home in the NC mountains and his home in Wake Forest. He had a garden they maintained that produced corn, okra, butter beans, peas, squash, zucchini, turnip greens, potatoes, and muscadine grapes. He enjoyed riding 4-wheelers with friends and multiple hobbies that revolved around working with his hands. He built and remodeled both homes that they lived in. He enjoyed caring for the yard and spent hours woodworking, creating cabinets, beds, and other furniture to be used by family. He was an active member of Stony Hill Baptist Church and served as a deacon as well as member/chairman of different building committees over the years. He installed tile in the church and assisted with upkeep of the property as well.

His deepest passion was for people - family and friends alike! He was always known as a person who would help others - stepping in to build homes, install tile, or simply offer wise words or advice. He developed deep and lasting friendships both professionally and personally.

Doug had a sweet tooth, specifically for chocolate and a love of coffee. He and Jan often went out with friends to enjoy a meal and conversation, which provided all his favorite things in one place: relationships with those he cared most about as well as good food and drink. Doug had some famous sayings like the one he used when he'd finished a project, "Pretty good for an old, fat man!" Or when he took a break from work and was encouraging people to get back at it, "This ain't gettin' the baby new shoes." He was a jokester, and when Rodney's friends teased Doug about being overweight, he would simply answer, "I'm just pregnant!"

Doug was predeceased by his parents as well as a sister, Nola Bailey.

He is survived by his wife Jan, his son, Rodney (Sara), two grandchildren, Chelsey Mead (Dan) and Sterling Frazier (Klaressa), and a great-granddaughter, Marlee Mead. Additionally, he leaves a brother, Jerry Frazier, and a sister, Jane Frazier.

Services will be held at Stony Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 3:00 pm. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 2:00 pm. There will be a graveside service immediately following the church service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, an organization Doug felt strongly about as he witnessed others battling cancer firsthand, and his heart broke, especially for the children.
