William was the son of James & Sarah Ruth (McCorpin/McColpin) Higgins. The grandson of Jesse & Hannah (Dunlap) Higgins.

He married:

1st Mary Elizabeth Jones 19 Mar 1854. Eight children were born of this union. She died of consumption.
Her son George Washington Higgins is #58672074 here on find a grave. Buried in Nethery Cemetery.

2nd Zenader Belle Marlow/Lawrence 3 Jul 1891. Three children were born of this union.

According to William's Civil War pension file, he had dark eyes, dark hair and a dark complexion. He was 5' 8" tall. And he was a farmer. He died of brights disease and heart diesease after spending a short time in the Danville Veterans Hospital.

Upon his death his three youngest children were put into the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Home in Knightstown, Indiana.
