Josefa, aka Josephine, was the daughter of Juan Pablo Melendre. The last name has been spelled Melendrez & Melendres as well. She married John Duncan Barncastle, see his notes. Pablo was the founder of Dona Ana, an original settler from Mexico. The 1910 census gives her birth place as Mexico, though I think it was in the area that is now New Mexico. This census also says that she "immigrated" in 1900, though she was living in the same area all her life. Half the Barncastle family is listed as speaking English, the rest Spanish.
