JoAnn was born September 24, 1942 in Huntington, Utah to Byron Allan and Opal Adams Howard. She married Brent Orton on October 20, 1966 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
JoAnn grew up in Huntington, where she was raised by her grandmother, Nida Howard. She attended the College of Southern Utah where she obtained a Secretary Associate degree. She worked as a dispatcher for the Garfield County Sheriffs Department for 13 years. She most recently was employed at the Best Western New Western Motel in Panguitch.
JoAnn loved her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She turned to them to help fill the void she felt after losing her son Lawrence and daughter Susan. She quilted beautifully and was an avid reader. JoAnn enjoyed being a friend and talking on the phone. Many were treated to her homemade hot mustard.
She is survived by her husband, Brent; son, Jason (Annette) Orton, of Panguitch; daughter, Nida (David) Blair, Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Tawnya and Tasha Hasse, Kesley McCallum and Jantzen, Kapri and Kyan Orton; brothers, Jimmy Lee Garland, Bobby Howard, twin brother John Howard; and special friend, Carolyn Crofts. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and children, Lawrence and Susan.
