Son of the late George Crofton and Ida Roberson Crofton. He was a retired a retired insurance agent. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Williamston. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Army Air Force. He married Mary H. Wadjowicz. She died in 1965. He married Frances Faucett in October, 1965. He was survived by his wife; a son, Arthur Clayton Crofton, Jr.; a daughter, Carla Reese Stevenson; two step-daughters; eight granchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His funeral was held at First Christian Church on March 31, 2008, with The Rev. Tom Goebel officiating.
