Elmer H. "Bud" Werbelow, 84, of Sheridan, died March 25, 2008 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Bud was born April 4, 1923, in Greybull, the son of Martin & Ella (Blank) Werbelow.

Bud grew up and attended schools in Emblem. He farmed on the family farm until serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Bud married Elizabeth Bandhauer on Aug. 20, 1947, in Salzburg, Austria. After the war, they moved to Fort Lewis, Wash., to finish his enlistment. After the service, he returned to Emblem where he farmed until 1955 when they moved to Kremlin, Mont. He worked for Hill County as an equipment operator.

The family returned to Emblem in 1962 and he farmed for Werbelow Brothers. In 1966, they returned to Kremlin and he worked as the custodian for Kremlin Public School. He worked there until retiring in 1990. They moved to Sheridan in 2005.

Bud was an active member of Kremlin Lutheran Church and also a member of Zion Lutheran in Emblem, Trinity Lutheran in Sheridan, the American Legion and VFW.

Bud enjoyed music, playing the guitar and the harmonica. He also enjoyed bowling, pinochle, hunting, fishing, telling jokes, roller skating, attending sporting events and having coffee with his friends. He was an award-winning Christmas decorator. Bud loved his family and was a devoted husband and father.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frank and Dick and a son-in-law, Curt Brenden.

Bud is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of Sheridan; sons John of Riverton, Ken of Buffalo, Ray of San Angelo, Texas, and Pat of Bismarck, N.D.; daughter Deanna Brenden of Sheridan; brothers Joe of Emblem, George of Emblem, Clarence of Powell, and Pete of Greybull; sisters Irma Olbricht of Hamilton, Mont., Gladys Behneman of Boise, Idaho, Doris Schmidt of Lovell, Evelyn Ellison of Powell, Becky Henderson of Greybull, Jean Werbelow of Monterey, Calif., and Mary Shepard of San Jose, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in the Emblem Cemetery.
