She graduated from Verona High School in Verona, MO, in 1942, and she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of Evansville. Judy was a long-time member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She began her nursing career at Welborn Baptist Hospital and retired in 1989. Judy then worked for Crippled Children of Western Kentucky, worked as a Midwest Health Liaison for United Mine Workers out of Washington D.C., and was an Engine Inspector for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in Kansas City where she was called Rosie the Riveter. Judy enjoyed caring for her flower garden, and she especially loved to work and take care of her family
Judy is survived by her son, Larry Lackey of Evansville, IN; daughter, Judy Clark (Morris) of Evansville, IN; grandson, Nicholas Leach of Evansville, IN; niece, Pattie Rule (Ray) of Mission, KS; nephews, Gary James of Springfield, MO, Nile James (Barbara) of Cameron Park, CA, and Bryan James (Marcia); step grandson, Darren Clark of Fishers, IN; step granddaughter, Melanie Stoddard (Eli) of Fishers, IN; four step great grandchildren; and many other beloved nieces and nephews.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, George and Maude James; beloved husband of 74 years, Ted S. Lackey, who passed away in 2017; and brothers, Wallace James and Nile James.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 11, 2023, Pastor Ken Slater will be officiating and the Southern Indiana Nurse's Honor Guard will perform a walk-through. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time, Friday, August 11, 2023,
