He married (first) Elizabeth Bear (other spellings of her maiden name have been suggested by descendants); married (second) Sarah A. (Wright) Breed, on June 26, 1857.
Some researchers have reported that Lewis' middle initial was R. There is just one public document showing a middle initial: the 1870 Federal Census shows a C. But with only that one document for evidence, it should be viewed with some degree of skepticism.
In 1880 Lewis' second wife, Sarah, was counted in the household of a daughter from Sarah's first marriage, Mary Esther (Breed) Bartholomew. They were residing in Chariton, Lucas County, Iowa. Mary Esther was still there when the Iowa state census was conducted in 1885. Sarah was not counted with her. Sarah's date and place of death are undetermined. That 1880 census reference is an anomaly. When viewing the Ancestry 1870 census for the Lewis Yetter household, a link for Sarah takes the viewer to the 1880 census page on which Mary Esther's family appears. But the current Ancestry 1880 census page online does not include Sarah. A set of a completely separate 1880 pages (not published by Ancestry) did show Sarah living with Mary Esther. Sarah was reported to be age 62, widowed, born in Pennsylvania, father born in Massachusetts, mother born in Pennsylvania. An omission like this from the 1880 Ancestry page could have occurred when the original pages were recopied.
