Katherine was born in Schiers, Switzerland, the daughter of Peter Sutter & Elizabeth (Joos) Sutter. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1873.

On September 11, 1881 she married Heinrich "Henry" Frederick Johan Kossow.

Following her husbands death, Katherine moved to California, where she lived until her death. Her body was returned to Minnesota for burial next to her husband.

Katherine was survived by her sons Peter, Edwin, William, Henry, Ernest, Carl, Herman & Arthur and daughters Elizabeth & Otilda.

She was preceeded in death by her husband Henry, infant sons Fritz and Oscar, parents Peter & Elizabeth Sutter, sister Ursula & two brothers (both named Florian).
