Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Flagg.
Widow of the late Abel Gates.
From the "Worcester Daily Spy," 8 Nov 1896:
....In 1816, she was married to Abel Gates, a native of Worcester, and ... they moved to the state of New York ... returned to Worcester. Mr. Gates died in 1845.
Ten children, two of whom died in infancy.... Three sons and five daughters lived to mature years, but all have been dead for a long period.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. E. Gates.
Her son Thomas Gates was a prominent figure in Worcester previous to his death, 18 years ago.... The burial will take place by the side of her son, Thos. Gates, in Hope cemetery.
(Note: There is a burial for an Elizabeth Gates, died 1856, as wife of Abel Gates, engraved on the headstone with her son Thomas. This appears to be an error as she is enumerated in the 1870 census, age 74, living with her son in Lancaster, MA.)
