Betty Allen was born April 19, 1933, in Des Moines to Lloyd D. and Grace Annajane (Vermillion) Allen. She grew up in the Runnells and Knoxville area and attended country school. She worked in Knoxville at a factory and her family had a poultry farm before they moved to St. Charles. Betty also worked as a nurse's aide, later becoming an LPN. She was employed at the St. Charles Nursing Home for four years before working at Leisure Manor in Osceola. Betty retired following 20 plus years of service. Following retirement, she and her sister, Viola, who she resided with for many years in St. Charles, moved to Winterset to live
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Dorothy Watts, Blanche Allen, and Viola Allen; and a brother, William Lynch.
She is survived by two nieces, Donna Henderson of Pleasant Hill and Carolyn Hendrickson of West Des Moines.
