Reverend Clyde Samuel "Bud" Precise, born January 6, 1937, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2022. Bud grew up in Scottsboro, Alabama, with five brothers and sisters. He was quarterback of his high school football team (his backup was a freshman named Pat Trammell who would become an All-American at Alabama). Bud attended Birmingham-Southern College and began working as a United Methodist pastor when he was 19 years old. He received master's degrees from Emory University and Southern Methodist University. He was active in the Civil Rights Movement protests in Birmingham in the 1960s. He was well known throughout his life as someone who fiercely defended anyone he felt was being unjustly oppressed, calling out the powerful with an unvarnished opinion, unafraid of any consequences he might receive. After 43 years of service in the North Alabama and Alabama-West Florida conferences, he retired from the United Methodist Church at age 62.

Bud began his "retirement" by serving in the Peace Corps in South Africa. Upon his return, he began serving Pilgrim Church UCC in Birmingham and gained dual standing as a minister in both the United Methodist Church and the United Church of Christ. He proudly served as Pilgrim's pastor for several years as a voice for people who are often silenced and maintained his active membership there for the rest of his life. He also served as a docent at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute for a number of years. Bud fell in love with Acadia National Park, serving as a volunteer there each fall for 20 years. He was an avid Alabama fan, overall sports fan, and loved to compete in any card game someone would play with him, especially cribbage. He is survived by his daughter Leigh Precise (Pete), son David Precise (Suzanna), sister Louise Moghani (Hooshang), and leaves behind a large community of friends and extended family. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 12 at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Church UCC. In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorials be sent to the Precise Family Endowment at Birmingham-Southern College.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ridoutsvalleychapel.com for the Precise family.
