Rev. J.E. Davis, a Baptist minister, brother of Rev. A.F. Davis, of Tylertown died at his home at Rawls Springs, on March 4th, 1925. Mr. Davis was born and reared on Ten Mile Creek, in Marion County January 7th. 1853. About 40 years ago he moved his family into the New Zion neighborhood, was ordained to the ministry by the New Zion Church soon after reaching that community, later he moved to the Rawles Spring, where he died. He was pastor of quite a number of churches during his ministry. He was stricken down with paralysis five years ago and has been a sufferer ever since gradually growing weaker until the end came. He was a member and a great lover of Free Masonry. He leaves a wife, six sons and three daughters, one borther and one half sister, Mrs. A. Kemp to mourn his going. His reaims were placed in one of the city cemeteries in Hattisburg. His funeral was conducted by Dr. W.F. Yarborough assisted by Rev. J.E. Wills, both pastors in Hattisburg.
