Juanita Alcorn Flanagan, of Russell Springs, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023, at her home. She was 93 years of age.

Born April 12, 1930, in Mt. Vernon, she was the daughter of the late Sollie and Lula Hundley Alcorn. Juanita graduated from Lafayette High School in Lexington and went on to earn her business degree from Danville Business College. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband and Korean War Veteran, D. Dravo Flanagan. Together they owned and operated The Toddler's Inn Day Care Center, one of the first in Russell Springs.

Juanita was a member of the Russell County Democratic Party who attended the inauguration of John F. Kennedy, Jr. and published her recollections of the historic event in the Times Journal and other societal columns.

She had a talent and passion for gardening and canning the rewards, and was a gracious hostess, who enjoyed cooking for family and friends.

Juanita is survived by her son, Andrew Flanagan, of Liberty; her daughters, Cindy Lamb, of Louisville, and Susan (and Mike) Kennedy, of Lexington; her grandchildren, Hunter Kennedy and Hayden Kennedy, both of Lexington, Caleb Flanagan, of Baltimore, Maryland, and Maggie Flanagan, of Nashville, Tennessee; her sister, Kathleen Alcorn, of Wisconsin; and a special niece, Missy (and Billy) Floyd, of Lexington.

Along with her parents, Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, Dewell Dravo Flanagan, who passed away April 7, 1991; and by her nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services are 1:00 p.m., CST, Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Bernard Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Russell Springs City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 11:00 a.m., CST, Wednesday, at Bernard Funeral Home, until time for services.

Arrangements for Juanita Alcorn Flanagan have been entrusted to Bernard Funeral Home.


Burial will be in Peolia Cemetery with Military Honors.
