Vernon Stingley Obituary

Vernon J. Stingley, 60, of Americus, IN died at his residence on Wednesday, August 30, 2006. Born in Lafayette on June 30, 1946 to late William Edward and Laurabell Gushwa Stingley, he had lived in Americus since 1981. He had also resided in Rossville, Monroe, GA, Fort Madison, IA, and Delphi, IN. 

He married Bonnita Jeanne Hardesty on June 22, 1968 in Lafayette, and she survives. 

He was a 1965 graduate of Rossville High School and had an Associate's Degree in Bible Studies from Guinnette Hall Bible School in Georgia. 

He served in the Army in Viet Nam. 

He had served as the pastor for Americus Union Church since 1983 to the present. . He had also worked for Alcoa as a mechanic and pipe fitter,at Lox Equipment as a foreman/supervisor and also at Wabash as a welder and a supervisor of special projects. 

Surviving with his wife are four daughters; Rebecca Stingley of Lafayette, Karen (husband, Joshua) Adams of Rossville, Teresa (husband, Charles) Allen of Lafayette, and Jaqueline Stingley of Americus, 3 brothers; George (wife, Daisy) Stingley of Lafayette, David (wife, Sharon) Stingley of Hoenwald, TN, Arthur (wife, Joy) Stingley of Flora, IN, and sisters; Katherine LaFon Russell, Mary (husband, James) Tilford, and Laura (husband, James) Spalding Praugh all of Lafayette. 


A Memorial Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Memorial service Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Americus Union Church 7566 Americus St. Lafayette, IN 47905. 


Also surviving are 3 grandchildren; Brigette Nicole Stingley, Jasmine Briann Allen, and Brittany Allen, and sisters-in-law; Lorraine Stingley and Francis Stingley Larimore. Preceded in death by 3 sisters; Elizabeth Grace Rohler, Ellen and Dorothy May Stingley, and 3 brothers; William E. Stingley, Jr, James Stingley, and John Paul Stingley.
