Peggy was born in Roswell, NM on January 7, 1934 to Albert and Berta Mae Whitehead, who preceded her in death.
Peggy was also preceded in death by step-mother Lolis Whitehead, sisters, Betty Lou Snyder and Betty Ann Elliot and brother, Gene Whitehead.
Peggy is survived by children Mike Pick of Albuquerque, NM and Ellen Clauss (David) of Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren, Audrey Graham (Steve), Ashten Mizell (Matt), Kristen Clauss and Kevin Clauss (Gwen), seven great-grandchildren, brother Al Whitehead (Lacy) and many beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Peggy was raised in Roswell, NM and was a social butterfly and a cheerleader at Roswell High School. Peggy met an officer and a gentleman named Henry Pick at New Mexico Military Institute. They were married on September 5, 1952 and they lived a real-life fairy tale for 68 years before Henry passed away in 2020.
Peggy moved to Kentucky with Henry, and a few years later they moved to Santa Fé, NM where they lived for 65 years.
Peggy was active in the community, she was a member of Las Jardineras Garden Club (she always loved flowers and her daisies live on in Ellen's garden), board member of the Santa Fé Country Club Golf Association and long-time participant in the Friendship Club of Santa Fé where she helped many people find sobriety. Peggy loved fishing in the Pecos with family, as well as golfing, tennis and bowling with friends. Peggy threw the best parties, no party was complete without the best linens, flowers and live music.
Peggy and Henry were active in Rotary International for nearly 50 years. They travelled all over the world for Rotary and also hosted many Rotary functions in Santa Fé, NM. Peggy was a counselor and speaker at Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) and she was recognized as a Paul Harris fellow.
Peggy was known as Meme by her grandchildren, whom she loved more than life itself. Peggy attended countless dance and band performances, sporting events and school functions and hosted slumber parties on a regular basis (the grandkids always said they had a five-star hotel experience at Meme's).
Peggy will be buried at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM with Henry. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Santa Fé,1213 Don Gaspar at Códova on August 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with a celebration-of-life luncheon for both Peggy and Henry afterward, Henry never got the celebration he requested because he passed away during the pandemic. Peggy loved bright colored clothing and large jewelry so please wear your best brights and biggest jewelry in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Friendship Club of Santa Fé (friendshipclubsantafe.org/) or by mailing donations to PO Box 6723, Santa Fé NM 87502.
