Robert S. Walden was born July 14, 1803, in Patrick county, Virginia, and departed this life at Claytonville, July 26, 1890, being 87 years and 12 days old. He died from the effects of cancer in the face. He bore his affliction with patience and Christian fortitude to the end. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn their loss. He was converted at the age of 27, and lived a humble, patient, and devoted Christian life. While he was prepared and ready to go at the Master's bidding; yet he expressed a desire to remain with his family, for whom he had a great affection. He was a kind husband and a loving father. Like the Apostle Paul, he reckoned that the sufferings of the present time were not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. His remains were laid to rest in the Claytonville cemetery by the side of his daughter and little grandson, July 27. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Barnes, of the United Presbyterian church.
