Silas Humes was born in the state of New York, Jan. 16, 1833, and died Feb. 21, at the remarkable age of 90 years, 1 month and 5 days. When a young boy with his parents, he moved to the state of Wisconsin. Here he married, and of this union five children, four sons and a daughter survived. They are Albert G., of Alberta, Can., George H., Tawton, Can., Charles H., of Canada; Eugene H., of Canada; the daughter is Mrs. Aug. Herbert of Duluth.
Forty-five years ago Mr. Humes came to Minnesota and took a homestead near Lake Reno, Pope county. Here he continued to live until twenty years ago, when he retired and came to this city, which has since been his home.
Mr. Humes was twice married. His second marriage, to Laura Carlquist, took place in 1885. She also survives her husband.
Funeral services were held form Anderson's chapel Friday afternoon, Feb. 23. Gev. [sic] G.A. Hanna of the methodist church officiated at the service. Interment was made in Kinkead cemetery.
The following were pall bearers; T.J. Barros, E.F. Nelson, Jessie Strang, Oscar Herbert, Robert Peacock and R.W. Menke.
