Betty Jean Feightner, 94, of Kokomo, passed away at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023, at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo. She was born March 23, 1929, in Wilder, Indiana, to Thomas Omer and Ada (Pratt) Hickman. On September 20, 1952, she married D. Jack Feightner, in Kokomo, and he preceded her in death on September 24, 2015.

Betty was the daughter of a preacher and the youngest of nine children. Her mother died very suddenly when Betty was six and that drew her closer with her father. They were best friends, they would often sing at church together, milk "Babe" their cow, carry in kindling, and those are just some of the things they did. Her father passed when she was thirteen, and after that, she went to live with her older sister, Julia. Betty attended Kokomo High school and was a member of the 1947 class. As soon as she graduated, she went to work at Continental Steel and later became the executive secretary for 32 years before retiring in 1978. She later worked for Penn-Dixie and had also worked at SS Kresge- the Five and Dime Store. Betty was a member of the Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene where she served on the church board for more than 20 years. She also served on the hospitality committee which started the Holy Grounds Café, and she helped organize the first musical with pageantry and continued this role for many years. Betty will be remembered as being a wonderful hostess and a master gardener.

Survivors include her son, Damon (Amy) Feightner; granddaughter, Marlis Feightner; former daughter-in-law, Rhonda Feightner; sister-in-law, Carloyn Parr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was proceeded in death by her parents and eight siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at One Church, 2734 S. Washington St., Kokomo, with Pastors Liz Robinson and Stan Zurcher officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty's memory to the Kokomo Humane Society. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
