The youngest of four brothers no sisters who grew up without knowing his father. He led a hard scrabble life. He built Stevens School in 1898 which still stands to this day. Judging by his carpentry skills my brother and I don't see how. Farmer, moonshiner, salesman. He turned his hand at anything to get by.
