After serving in the United States Army and Army Reserve, he served on the Indianapolis Fire Department from January 15, 1967 to January 22, 2000, and was promoted to Captain on February 25, 1984. A Renaissance man and cosmopolitan he had a penchant for poetry, a love for animals, music, and handball. He was often seen wearing an ascot tie and a smile.
Predeceased by his siblings, Mary Anne (Redmond), Joseph, and Edward (Pete); Uncle B is survived by his brother, John; and three generations of nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be Friday, July 7, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oakley-Hammond - 5342 East Washington Street. On Saturday, prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Indianapolis.
