Son of John and Margaret Hampshire Huss. Married Florence Irwin in 1867. Went to Kansas in 1871, where he farmed. Was 3rd settler of Mt Hope. Brought first native cows to Greeley Twnshp, Ks. Fought in Civil War in 22nd Rgmt Iowa Volunteers, Co. G. Fought at Cedar Creek, Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Berryville, VA.

William G. Cutler's "History of the State of Kansas", in its section on Sedgwick County, gives this biographical sketch of Will O. Huss of Greeley Township:

"W. O. HUSS, farmer, Section 14, P. O. Mount Hope, was born in Ohio, in 1846. Son of John and Margaret Hampshire Huss. Was married in 1867, to Miss Flora Irwin, daughter of John and Amanda Calkins Irwin. Has two children, Aldo M. and Ivy O. Came to Kansas in 1871, and located on the farm where he now resides. Owns 160 acres of land on the bank of the Arkansas River. Engaged in farming and stock raising. Was in the War of the Rebellion; enlisted in 1864 in the Twenty-second Regiment Iowa Volunteers, Company G. Was in the Berryville, Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, and other engagements of his command. Was mustered out in 1865. Was the third settler of the township. Ivy O. Huss, daughter of the subject of this sketch, was the first child born in Greeley Township. Mr. Huss brought the first native cows into Greeley, from Iowa, there being none but Texas cattle in the country in those days."
