Thurman Leo Spray, 93, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 28th, 2023 surrounded by his children. He was born on January 11th, 1930 in Mitchell, Indiana to the late Carl Spray and Nora (Sweeney) Spray. Thurman was a hardworking man who made good use of all the time he had so he had several careers and earned many titles over the years. These include but are not limited to; 32nd degree Mason at the Blue Lodge where he was a Mason for over 50 years, Member of the Indiana National Guard 151st Infantry where he was a retired Command Sergeant Major 31 years, a Kosair Shriner, and a Scottish Rite Mason. Thurman worked for Bloemer's Food, had a distributorship and was a rep for Mother's Cookies for 21 years, worked at BF Goodrich and retired after 15 years, was retired co-owner of Redi Strip, and co-owner of Engle and Spray Associates, LLC.

Thurman valued hard work and was especially proud to use his time to provide service for others. He was dedicated to making his own way in life and helping others less fortunate than himself. Thurman was also a bright man, who treasured interesting conversation and getting to know new people. One of his favorite questions to ask anyone and everyone was, "What is the meaning of life?" and although he hardly ever got a solid answer out of anyone, he enjoyed making people think and hearing what people had to say. For him, it was never about the answer in the first place, it was the interesting conversation it created.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by; his loving wife of 65 years, Iona (Davis)Spray; brother, Leslie Spray; and granddaughter, Melissa Engle.

Left to carry on his legacy; son, Douglas Spray (Sarah); daughters, Debra Burton (Robert) and Shari Engle (Thomas); grandchildren, Stacy Osburn (Timothy), Shawn Burton (Jennifer), Brent Engle (Lindsay), Lindy Short (Daniel), Bryan Engle (Lauren), Ashley Spray, and Adam Spray (Stefanie); great grandchildren, Logan Mullins (Jarad), Seth (Kelsey) and Sam Short, Jacob and Tyler Burton, Chaz, Chandler, Rylan and Hudson Engle, Klaire, Beau, and Everett Spray.
