United States Army Specialist Rundell, of Ramsey, Minnesota, son of Jimmy and Joanne Richardson Rundell. A 2004 graduate of North St. Paul High School, he was a gentle spirit, a talented drawer and had a great sense of humor. Gregory dreamed of becoming a police officer, so thinking that personal experience serving in the military would help him become a better cop, in 2005 he enlisted in the army. His older brother, Kyle, had served in Iraq as a member of the Minnesota National Guard. Kyle gave Gregory some tips on his own experiences in Iraq. While attending basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, Gregory wrote his mother a letter telling her, "Don't worry. I don't want tears of loss, but tears of happiness for what I was able to do." Deployed to Iraq in December 2007, he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, based at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He was killed by sniper fire while on duty in a guard tower north of Baghdad. He is survived by his mother Joanne Richardson; sisters Desiree and Andrea; brothers Kyle and Wayne; nephews Benjamin and Dane; grandparents Bonnie and Pete Johnson, Diane Rundell and Susie Iniguez; best friend Andy; godfather Mike Niven and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
