He was a soldier, husband, father and friend. Jesse Edward Anderson of St. Louis, Missouri, formerly of Richland, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023, at the age of 94. He lived a full and rich life and will be greatly missed. He was born on February 8, 1929, to loving parents, True Vernon and Gladys Eva (Boyd) Anderson. The family lived in St. Louis during his younger years. Jesse graduated from Affton High School while spending summers hunting and fishing the Gasconade River with family and friends. Later, the family relocated to the farm in Richland, Missouri, where he continued to pursue those favorite pastimes on the Gasconade.

Jesse enlisted in the Army at the age of 18 during the Korean War. He was recruited to join the 8th Army Rangers by a personal invitation from then Colonel John H. McGee. He was very proud to be a part of the Eighth Army Ranger Company. "Rangers lead the way!" He fought with honor and distinction in 5 of the 6 major battles of the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, having attained the rank of Sergeant during his military service.
While on leave a friend introduced him to the love of his life, Lillian Mae (Maxwell) Anderson. They married in 1952 after he was honorably discharged from the Army. The couple bought a house to begin their life together in St. Louis, Missouri. Jesse began his career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman and moved up to management over the 35 years he worked until retirement.
During that time, he and Lil started a family. Their first baby girl was born in 1955, Terri Edalene Anderson and was the apple of his eye. Two and a half years later their second daughter, Toni Elaine Anderson, was born in 1957 and she was Daddy's little girl.
His interests were varied and enriched his life. The family traveled much over his lifetime and summer vacations were always eagerly anticipated. He joined the Mason's and was a Past Master at the Keystone Lodge in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a member of the Shiner's Provost Guard. Notably, Jesse was a proud President of the Eighth Army Ranger organization for many years. Through his life adventures he made great lifelong friends. His army buddies, coworkers, Masonic brothers and his extended family meant the world to him. He was a wonderful father, watching as both daughters grew up and married, adding two sons-in-law to the family. He was very close to both Sean Moriarty (Terri Anderson Moriarty) and Thomas Smith (Toni Anderson Smith). His inner circle includes so many more friends and family members too numerous to include here from all over the country.
He loved to sit and tell stories with family and friends over a good meal or enjoy the peace and quiet of the river rolling by on a lazy afternoon. He was admired and loved by all who knew him and made our world a better place. What more can you ask of a life well lived. Rest in Peace, soldier, your duty is done.

A funeral service for Jesse E. Anderson will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri.
