Mrs. Ponder was born in Buncombe County to the late Vernon Roosevelt Bradley and Emma Lydia Owensby Bradley. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, William "Bill" Ponders and Robert Conley Buckner; a daughter, Debbie Whitaker; four brothers, Alvin Bradley, Carmen "Jim" Bradley, Troy Bradley and Donald Bradley and a sister, Belva Howard.
Elsie was a spiritual lady and she always saw the good in life. She loved music and her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Hancock (Tom), two sisters, Joyce Bradley (Gary) and Josie Thomas (Bruce); a brother, Ronald Bradley, (Patricia); two grandchildren, Chris Hancock (Kristin) and Julie Haines (Eric); six great grandchildren, Marissa Hancock, Kendric Hancock, Makena Hancock, Alexis Hancock, Natalie Corn and Sydney Corn; a great great granddaughter, Adalynn Hancock; a son-in-law, Max Whitaker and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 11:00 am at New Salem Cemetery in Skyland with Pastor Don Hare officiating.
Mrs. Ponders will lie in repose at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian from 2:00 to 5:00 on Sunday, June 25, 2023.
