Daughter of Joseph Edward Taylor and Jane Maria Capener

Married George Synder Alexander, 26 Dec 1898, Heber, Wasatch, Utah

Biography - I am the daughter of Joseph Edward and Jane Maria Capener Taylor. I was born December 23, 1877 in Charleston, Wasatch County, Utah. I was blessed by my father and was baptized on May 14, 1887 by Edward Buys in Charleston, Utah.

I was married to George Snyder Alexander on December 26, 1898, in Heber City, Wasatch County, Utah. He was the son of Henry Samuel and Sarah Miles Alexander. My step-father, Thomas H. Giles, performed the ceremony. Mr. Giles was a wonderful man, loved very much by all who knew him.

Before my marriage I took an active part in the Mormon Church, or I should say, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was organist for the church choir and assistant organist for the Sunday School, President of the Y.W.M.I.A. of the Heber West Ward, but had to give it up on account of illness. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the M.I.A. work.

After marriage I had little chance to be active in Church work as we moved about so much, but did so whenever the opportunity came my way.

Nellie Springer, from Midway, Utah, and I were chosen as refreshment committee and also to help with the entertainment program for the Relief Society in Park City, Utah. We both enjoyed the work very much. Nellie was such a wonderful woman; one could not help but love her.

When we moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, I again became active in Church work. I was chosen President of the Religion Class of Liberty Ward in the Salt Lake Stake. I loved working with children, but always thought that the religion class was like a fifth wheel to a wagon, it being a duplicate of Primary and Sunday School. Some years later it was discontinued.

We moved to Rupert, Idaho and l became a Relief Society visiting teacher.

After the death of my husband on August 6, 1943, I continued to work at the Ressler Health Home, A T.B.Hospital for convalescent patients. At that time when one reached the age of seventy years, they were required to resign from Civil Service, which I did, and came to live with my daughter, June, in Los Angeles, Cal., and have called this home ever since; however, I spend a good part of the summers with my other children.

I am the mother of eight children, seven living. My eldest son passed away on January 11, 1950 in Venice, California.

I now have the privilege of going to the beautiful Los Angeles Temple to do work for those who have gone on and did not have the chance to do the work for themselves. I am also a member of the Garvanza Ward of the Glendale Stake.

I am so thankful to my Heavenly Father to be counted worthy of being a member of the L.D.S. Church and receiving the many blessings that it has given me. In closing I will say - "Live Near fo God if You Really Want to Be Content and Happy."
