Mary Louise Kent Taylor Strickler age 96 of Jacksonville passed away at her residence on June 15, 2023, with family members at her bedside. She was born on September 29th, 1926, in Omaha Nebraska, the daughter of Lydle L. Kent and Mary M. Painter Kent of Omaha.

She had two brothers and one sister. All her family has preceded her in death.

She married Oliver Glenn Taylor of Murrayville on November 28th, 1947, and they lived on his family farm. They became parents of three children, Kay Louise, George Dale, and Polly Marie. Mr. Taylor became quite ill and passed away in July of 1974, Polly Marie lost her life in March of 1977, George Dale passed away in March of 2012.

Surviving is one daughter, Kay Louise (Jerald) Walker of Jacksonville. One granddaughter Shannon Leigh Walker with husband Troy who is deceased of Jacksonville. Great grandchildren Christian (Sammi) Walker of Springfield, Troy (Julie) Walker of Springfield, Taylor Walker of Springfield, and Polly Walker of Jacksonville. She also has several great-great grandchildren Luka Walker, Adley Walker, Willow Walker, and Troy Walker. Later Mary married Robert K. Strickler of Jacksonville IL, who passed away in March of 2003. Three of his children survived, Larry K. (Pattie) Strickler of Arizona, Pamela Sue (Steve) Naber, Deborah Lee Strickler of Jacksonville.

Mary was a nurse for many years employed at Passavant Area Hospital. After her retirement, she wanted to continue nursing and worked in several nursing homes in the area. She sang with the Sweet Adalines when they were first chartered here in Jacksonville. She was a long-time member of the Prairie Land Museum serving several terms on the board of directors and as the secretary. She was chairman of the craft venders for the yearly steam show. She worked on the project of moving the Liberty Church to Prairie Land. She also helped with the painting of the beautiful band stand as it was being rebuilt. Mary liked country music, western movies, polka dancing, NASCAR racing, and her furry animals.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Asbury Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Prairieland Heritage Museum to benefit Liberty Church.
