Obituary:Sarah Alice Manley was born January 8, 1906, the fifth of eight children, on a farm near Mayberry, NE to Landon Franklin and Valo Catherine Edwards. She passed away at the Pawnee Manor in Pawnee City, NE on April 12, 1993 at the age of 87 years 3 months and 4 days.
Alice graduated from high school at Summerfield, KS. After graduation she taught school south of DuBois for several years.
On January 23, 1926 she was united in marriage to Warren Manley in Hiawatha, Kansas. To this union nine children were born: Wendell; twins, Gaylord and Galen; twins Keith and Kathleen; Anna Mae, Marvin, Norman and Wanda.
Warren and Alice farmed in Johnson and Pawnee County until 1951. At that time they moved to Omaha, NE where Warren worked for Peter Kiewit Construction. Warren died in October 1962. Alice went to work as a nurses aide at Clarkson Hospital, where she later received her L.P.N. License. In 1957 she went to work for an Omaha physician as his office nurse until 1973 when she retired. She then moved to Eagle, NE and later to Burchard.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Burchard, NE; the U.M.W. and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed working with her flowers and spent many hours doing handiwork. Making quilts and crocheting was something she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, 5 brothers, 1 sister; 1 son,Keith, 1 daughter, Kathleen; and 1 grandson, Steven; 1 granddaughter, Toni and 2 premature infant grandchildren.
She is survived by her 5 sons, Wendell and wife Beverly of Omaha; Gaylord and wife Jean of Spring Hill FL; Galen and wife Nina of Anderson, IN; Marvin and wife Delores of Tuscon, AZ; Norman and wife Kathryn of Murray, NE; 2 daughters, Anna Mae Dougherty and husband Robert of Burchard; Wanda Evans and husband James of Marshalltown, IA; 1 sister, Luella Havel of North Loup, NE; 26 grandchildren; 41 great grand children; 1 great-great grandchild; and several generations of nieces and nephews.
