Fred Lee "Freddy" Johnson, 82, of Monticello died September 22, 2012, at The Retreat Nursing Home in Monticello. Mr. Johnson was born March 8, 1930 to the late Johnny Johnson and the late Ethel Humpherys in Monticello.
He was educated in the Jasper County School System. He and his sister worked for the E.C. Kelly family for many years. He enjoyed farming.
Mr. Johnson made several friends wherever he went and was a man of very few words but always smiled. He loved his church and was a regular Sunday School and church service member.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by two sisters, Isabell Manning and Vera Johnson and a brother, Johnny Johnson.
Survivors include a sister, Inez Farley of Monticello; three nieces, Tabitha Johnson of Monticello, Chanelle Johnson and Alecia Johnson, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; a nephew, Maurice Johnson, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a very close family friend, Don Kelly of Monticello; and a host of other cousins, friends, and church family members.
A service was held September 26, 2012 at St. James A.M.E. Church, in Monticello, with Rev. Donna Marie Calix, pastor/eulogist. Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 923 Funderburg Drive, Monticello, was in charge of arrangements.
