He was born Dec. 20, 1897 at Maquoketa, Iowa, and lived in Topeka
since August, 1920. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. 42 years and was a supervisor in the accounting department before he retired. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 2608, and the Fourth Degree. He had been a first aid instructor for the American Red Cross and was active in Boy Scout volunteer work.
He was married to Elizabeth Catherine Desch Nov. 1, 1921. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Vernard M. Guyer Jr., 2540 Maryland; and four grandchildren.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Guyer will lie in
state from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Brennan Funeral Home where rosaries will be recited by the parish at 7 :30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2608 at 8 p.m., and by the Fourth Degree at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.
