Note from Bob Wilson, photographer:
There are a few lines of verse carved into the base of the stone which did not become apparent until I scraped the moss and lichen off of it. It appears to be a short poem which was common during that era, with minor variations.
Dearest Father thou hast left us
And thy loss we deeply feel
But 'tis God that has bereft us
He can all our sorrows heal.
Yet again we hope to meet thee
When the day of life is fled
When in heaven with joy to greet thee
Where no farewell tear is shed.
