Thomas D. "Tom" Britt, 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away June 13, 2023 at KDMC in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He was born in Lincoln County on December 7, 1931, to Homer Landon & Ida Minton Britt, the sixth of their eight children.
Preceding him in death were his parents and all his siblings; sisters, Allie Gunnell, Betty Brewer, Dorothy Smith, Lessie McKoy; and brothers, James Britt, Clayton Britt, Charles Britt.
A devoted husband for 71 years, he is survived by his wife, Margie Case Britt; daughter, Wanda Smith and husband Mark; and grandchildren, Peyton Beall (Kyle) and Patrick Smith.
Spending time with family, gardening, traveling, participating in and watching sports, and especially hunting and fishing trips with his siblings were cherished times.
At eighteen he served his country with honor in the U.S. Army in Korea earning a Purple Heart & Bronze Star and achieving the rank of master sergeant. The American Hero interview about his army experiences was his treasured highlight.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Tom enjoyed telling stories and could fill a room with conversation. He was a storyteller from a long line of storytellers. A retired carpenter with exceptional skills, his work lives on in the homes and buildings he helped create and restore.
He was by all accounts a rich man: he could build it, fix it, grow it, catch it, hunt it, and also cook up a fine meal. Quick to smile, kind-hearted, always glad to help and share.
We will love him forever.
