38, died in a fire yesterday that
gutted the 47-year-old Imperial
Hotel, 201 E. Livingston Street.
The flash fire swept through the
three-story building in minutes
after it apparently started in the
basement. Apparently the
flames were carried through a
shaft from the bottom of the
building straight through to the
roof. The Pontiac Prison fire
truck and three city trucks were
on the scene from 4:15 p.m.
yesterday until 1:45 a.m. today.
The hotel had 36 rooms, and
there were 29 persons living
there at the time of the fire.
