Funeral services for Mrs. Joe Allread, longtime Sundance resident, were held at the American Legion hall here Oct. 4, 1961. Mrs. Allread died Oct. 1 at the Crook County Memorial Hospital here. She was 77.

Services were conducted by Garrett Hughes. Burial was in Green Mountain Cemetery under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Murel Ealy, Charles Donaldson, Carl Mayer, Gaylord Zane, Noel Edwards and Delos Plato. All friends of the family were considered honorary pallbearers.
Edith Hilton was born in Spearfish on Jan. 19, 1884 and in 1886 moved with her parents to Beulah where she lived until 1900 when she entered the normal school at Spearfish.
After graduating in 1905, she began teaching in Fall River County, South Dakota near Buffalo Gap. She later taught school for five years in Crook County.

On September 27, 1908, she was married to Joe Allread. The couple moved to Sundance in 1920. They resided in and around Sundance and on a homestead in the Bear Lodge.

She is survived by her husband, Joe; one son, Forrest, Seattle, WA; two daughters - Mrs. Lester Wright, Gillette, and Mrs. Louis Jennerjahn, Lead, SD; two sisters - Mrs. Mabelle Smith, Mount Vernon, WA, and Mrs. Elsie Shroyer, East Stanwood, WA; and one brother, David HIlton, Marquette, MI. ONe brother died in 1954.
