Born in Saltville, Washington County Virginia (Now Smyth County). His grandparents were Thomas Edmiston Dunn and Caledonia V. Sanders Dunn. He was raised by his father and stepmother (Mattie May Gookin Dunn).

Lynch Sanders Dunn, 56, of 15 Barney Place,Cradock, died in a local hospital. He was the husband of Ada Whitlock Dunn. Mr. Dunn had resided in Portsmouth for the past twenty years. He was a member of Cradock Baptist Church and Cradock Legion Post 993 and a World War I veteran. Besides his wife, Mr. Dunn is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Dorothy Mae Bach of Chicago, Ill, Mrs. Ada D. Moore of Harrisburg, Pa. and Miss Annabelle Dunn of this city. Four sons, William L. Dunn, Lee Sanders Dunn, George E. Dunn and Ray Thomas Dunn, all of Portsmouth; His step mother Mrs. Mae Dunn of Onola, Okla; two sisters, Georgeann Gorsline of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Carter Ryburn of Glade Springs, Va.; two brothers, Harry Dunn of Tulsa, Okla. and Thomas Dunn of Onola, Okla.
Evening memorial services were held at the funeral home by Pup Tent No. 4, Military Order of Cooties
Funeral services with full military honors were conducted at 2 p.m. Members of Portsmouth Post No. 993 and Veterans of Foreign Wars attended.
