SAMUEL NEWTON (“NEWT”) SAYRE was born 15 June 1855 in Iowa. He married 1 September 1880 in Madison County, Iowa, LURA ROSETTA McLAUGHLIN who was born 9 October 1859 in Boscabel, Wisconsin to Henry Albert and Cathrine (Miller) McLaughlin. Newt was a physician and member of the Madison County Medical Association. He was Clerk of St. Charles in 1885 and 1886. Ref.: The History of Madison County, Iowa, 1915, by H. Mueller, page 258. Newt died 10 January 1919, and Lura died 28 March 1948 of Arteriosclerosis. (Ref. Death Book 4, page 124) Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Madison, Iowa. Children:

Loren was educated at St. Charles High School; Highland Park University, at DesMoines; DesMoines University, BS 1926; Graduate work at University of Iowa. Mabel was a High School teacher in St. Charles. . . Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery. - 3. LAURA ETHEL SAYRE, b. 24 April 1885, St. Charles, Madison, Iowa. - 4. ( ) SAYRE - 5. IVAN K. SAYRE (Dr.), b. 7 September 1889 in St. Charles, Madison, Iowa; married 16 August 1912 in Winterset, JENNIE ANDERSON who was born in 1890. Ivan was educated at St. Charles, and Drake University, Maryland, 1913. He interned at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, 1913-1920. He practiced Medicine in St. Charles and was member of the city council for 10 years . . . He died in 1954. Jennie died in 1972. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Madison, Iowa. -
