He married 1 September 1880 in Madison County, Iowa, LURA ROSETTA McLAUGHLIN who was born 9 October 1859 in Boscabel, Wisconsin to Henry Albert and Cathrine (Miller) McLaughlin. Newt was a physician and member of the Madison County Medical Association. He was Clerk of St. Charles in 1885 and 1886. Ref.: The History of Madison County, Iowa, 1915, by H. Mueller, page 258.
