Thomas Lloyd Modica, aged 75, passed away suddenly on June 5, 2023 at ProMedica Medical Hospital in Monroe.

Born March 5, 1948 in Monroe, Michigan to the late Samuel F. and Agnes (Duvall) Modica, Tom showed an early aptitude for athletics, the pursuit of which would bring him enjoyment throughout his lifetime. He played football for Monroe-Jefferson High School and soon after graduating in 1966, he joined the United States Navy as a machinist on the USS Fort Mandan until 1969 when he returned to Michigan and put his tool and die skills to use working for Ford Motor Company at the Woodhaven Stamping Plant where he was a member of U.A.W. Local 387 Flat Rock and enjoyed a 34-year career before his retirement in 2000.

Active in community and family activities throughout his life, retirement allowed Tom to expand on his many interests. A master woodworker who crafted countless gifts for family and friends over the years, he was a Master Mason and a proud member of VFW Post 1138. Tom loved to socialize with his friends, and loved sitting on his front porch watching over the neighborhood he loved and catching up with neighbors, and all the neighborhood dogs knew that he freely handed out treats. Tom's generous and genuine personality garnered him many lifetime friendships that he cherished.

Tom loved the outdoors, was a gun enthusiast, and for over 20 years, played slow-pitch softball and coached T-Ball teams. His love of sports extended to college and professional teams as well, his favorites being the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Tigers, and pretty much any team playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers, just to lovingly aggravate his son, which was and is a time-honored Modica tradition.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Donna (Bartley-Robinson), sons Thomas (Susan) Modica of McRae, Arkansas, Brian (Jesse) Bernal of Lambertville, Michigan, daughter Sarah (Shon) Williams of Stockbridge, Michigan, brother Samuel (Marjorie) Modica, daughter-in-law Misty Modica, grandchildren Angelina, John Thomas, Allen, Sydney, and Brittany Modica, Sharp and Mackenzie Williams, and great-grandchildren Ava, Harper, Stevie, Eden, and Braxton.

Tom was preceded in death by his son Steven Modica and his loyal companion, Hershey.

Family and friends may call this Sunday, June 11, 2023 from the hours of 2PM until 8PM at Rupp Funeral Home, and the funeral services will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 11AM at Rupp Funeral Home as well. The Rupp family is honored to assist Tom's family in their time of need.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Humane Society of Monroe County or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
