'Susan Cobb, the daughter of William Rufus Cobb and Sophia Pauline Abernethy, married Thomas Jefferson Whitener on May 19, 1885 in Catawba Co., N.C. Thomas was the son of Robert Michael Whitener and Elmira Walker. According to one of their daughters, Flora Mae Whitener Killian, her parents had fifteen children. One of the children, Willie, died at two years old, and there were three infants that died. These four little ones do not have grave markers.'
